All of the products distributed by Silly Pants Inc. have been checked by Green Parents' List to the US Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) requirements for Lead, Phthalates and other heavy metals as a baseline acceptance criterion. The US Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act limits the lead (Pb) in surface coatings and accessible substrates, 6 different phthalates in plastics, and soluble heavy metals (antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, mercury and selenium) in surface coatings to ensure that these have not been added intentionally to the products.
Green Parents' List was founded to provide parents seeking healthier toys and products for their children with a resource to find products from responsible manufacturers. While parents are able to visually and physically inspect toys for other hazards like sharp edges or loose components, the chemical composition of the material is not obvious. Our parent reviewers have engineering and science backgrounds and are familiar with mechanical and material testing practices. We also offer third-party validation of green claims to support those statements made above and beyond the baseline CPSIA hazardous materials requirement for Green Parents' List acceptance.
1) Beatrix NY -
The Beatrix NY products are built to last. The packs and the lunch boxes are made with durable nylon fabric, and laminated canvas that can also be easily wiped clean, or machine washed in the case of the lunch boxes. The products are PVC free. The characters have been appliqued, and the tags are embroidered rather than screen printed on the fabric, making them both more durable and reducing risk associated with surface coatings. The products have been tested for lead and phthalates (in addition to safety tested.)
In addition to the character packs, Beatrix New York also has a line of very popular eco-packs and totes that are constructed from nylon made entirely from recycled plastic water bottles and trimmed with naturally biodegradable canvas. Each pack removes four to seven 16 oz plastic bottles from the environment.
